#109670 ECR improvements - can we get regular updates in here?

Posted by marco8 on 15 October 2018 - 04:55 PM

Email received today:

Giant machines chewing up asphalt and dirt, cutting slabs of limestone --- and then drying, compacting, grading, stabilizing.

100,000 tons of dirt moved and counting, miles of drains and culverts installed.

Holy construction mayhem Batman!

Eagles Canyon 2.0 is so much more than just a re-do – we are reshaping and reimagining the place.

It is also an epic battle against the elements.

This is an update of where we are; it is a good news, bad news story.

The bad news is simple – look out your window at the weather. We have had the wettest September on record, and October is even wetter so far; it has set us weeks behind – and put us in a difficult position for the paving as the temperatures get colder. We knew this was a risk going in and we ‘ll have to fight our way through. Things have held up remarkably well, given the rain – a testament to the quality of what is being done.

The good news is: we are fighting like lions. Our partners, our plan – is just getting better and better. The passion and the quality of our team is incredible and that is precisely why the weather doesn’t scare us. We can’t control it, but we can control how we execute the final product, and we will get there.

So – we fight on. Our goal is to do everything we can to finish Phase 1 in November; but we need enough dry days and then some days over 70… to get it all done. We will keep you posted and organize a town hall sometime soon to have a ‘live’ discussion.

We really, really appreciate the support you have all showed us. It is heavy lifting on all fronts to get this done. A huge investment, and a huge undertaking.

It will be incredibly special once it is done. We hate overpromising – so you will have to see some of this for yourself when it is complete… but I can assure you we are cutting no corners. This will be done right, and you will be very proud to be one of the core members that made it possible.

#107050 Flood Cars

Posted by marco8 on 08 July 2018 - 01:04 PM

Bring a fresh battery & jumper cables, or one of those starter battery kits. Bring fresh oil and a filter for the car just in case. Bring a compression testing kit. Maybe a multi meter just in case.

Think twice, Lot more to bringing back a flood car. Depending on water line, drain and replace all fluids, and energizing car can cause damage, etc. You can inspect visually but that’s it. Plan and budget for worse case scenario. This is a high risk high return situation. It can and will probably will work out great, but plan for the worse. Good luck

Regarding shoulder wings, I had same issue. I took seat cover off and cut/reshaped the fiberglass wing. Be sure to wear eye protection and a mask. Good luck

Gloating about your big block 1.8 is going to make the 1.6 guys feel inferior! Be a little more sensitive, you know....

#87468 Forced Induction ideas and recommendations... and no flaming

Posted by marco8 on 12 February 2017 - 04:46 AM

SC Miata NA track user last 4+ years, 20+ track days year. Here is my experience and recommendations.

Heat is not an issue if you have a good setup: 1)bigger radiator 2)good ducting 3)oil cooler 4)hood venting 5)ethanol, more fuel cooling and lower egt 6)accurate temp reading-oil temp sensor recommend

Consider reroute but didn't need, and the above provides more cooling for the buck.

Reliability is reasonable, but keep in mind that more power = more wear and tear. Making more hp is easy but comes at a cost, shorter engine life / sooner rebuilds.

I have chosen to go lower boost 9psi and ethanol to increase engine life, but still make power. Motors are a consumable, and a fresh motor with my setup will go approx 100hrs ( on track) before rebuild. More boost expect lifespan to shorten.

Random points of wisdom 1)power is fun, satisfying and different, but might hamper your skills development (easy to correct a badly executed corner with extra torque down the straight). Miatas are momentum cars and FI can compensate for poor execution. 2)megasquirt is a must 3)systems are more complex so expect to invest more time in learning. 4)Rotrex vs roots (I use roots style). Roots been around forever and is the still the choice for top performance cars e.g. ls7, Shelby etc. 5)boost is a temptress, and you will fight the urge to add more. 6)listen to Hornetball

Good luck. PM if you want to discuss realtime

The rennlist thread is a good educational read on red flags, this situation, and first person accounts from the silver gt3 and red 458 involved: http://rennlist.com/...flag-lucky.html
