My car didn't come with traction control but it does have ABS. I don't think that any production car allows you disable ABS without pulling sensors or pulling fuses but I could be wrong. I don't find my ABS system to be intrusive, was yours?

 

I definitely felt ABS kick in when I had it enabled.  It wasn't necessarily intrusive though.  This probably sounds stupid, but I'm kinda OCD about trying to chase a pure driving experience with little to no computer aids.  The challenge of mastering threshold braking without flat-spotting tires is part of the allure for me.

 

The ABS hate started when I was really enjoying a rain session at MSRC (with ABS kicking in frequently) and my instructor said, "Good job, but try doing this in the wet without ABS like on my NA Miata."  This was the "hold my beer/challenge accepted" moment when I decided to disable ABS and prove to myself that I didn't have to rely on ABS to save my ass.

 

Maybe I should just buy an older, carbureted car with no computer aids to chase that experience?  In the meantime, I'm going to try to find ways to take my relatively modern NC Miata back to the stone ages.  However, it seems that my ABS disable solution is not the right approach per Derek's feedback - so I need to do more research there.

I didn't realize tire trailer had status. Who knew? Love my little rig, but really figured I was just too much of a broke ass to afford a dedicated track car/trailer/truck.

 

As a fellow cheap-ass, I definitely consider my dinky Harbor Freight utility trailer a status upgrade.  See you there!

Thanks for the wisdom everyone. My transmission is already tired with 100k miles and many track days. I think I'll stick with the stock shifter to avoid accelerating wear & tear.

Had a great time as usual!  Glad there was a nice (hard) breeze to take the edge off the heat.  See the Apex guys at the 2-way Monday 6/4. Sign up if you haven't.

 

Great driving on your part. Very impressed with both the driver and the car. I didn't know much about the 1LE's performance, but wow, what a machine. Probably one of the best values in performance cars if buying new.

Forgot my GoPro at home, so no footage unfortunately. I've only run this configuration twice, but it's quickly becoming one of my favorites due to the challenge it offers. Lots of room to grow and chase quicker times on this one.  The downhill left turn after the front straight is probably where I'm leaving the most time on the table.
 
Good times were had, and I'm looking forward to going back.

I completed the motor mounts replacement today and went for a spirited test drive.  I'm happy to report that the shifting action has improved noticeably!  I didn't notice any grinding or reluctance to go into gear as I was experiencing with the old mounts.

 

However, I do believe some of the transmission internals have wear on them, and I won't get that like-new, rifle-bolt crisp shifting (like I experienced when the car was new to me with zero track time under its hood) until I address these parts.

Of course I decide to dip my toe into this and build a box for it when crypto-miners inflate the GPU market price to stupid levels.

 

If you have a Micro Center around you, I heard they were limiting one card per customer at retail prices (to stop the miners from clearing out their shelves).  Might just be an Nvidia thing, but worth looking into.

So...  question for those of you that have ridden bikes on track..  go you go out and spend the whole session at >90% like yuo do in a car, or do you go out there and cruise at 75% because possible death?  I have no problems jumping in my caged race car and doing >95% for the whole session (excepting the normal places like T1/T17 wall at MSRH, where I'm about 90-95%)..   obviously pushing that hard all the time, one is going to make mistakes, and I regularly spin or put a couple wheels in the dirt when I find the limit..  That said, if there are other people around me, I obviously back off so I don't risk hitting them on a track day... 

 

so does the average weekend rider go that hard on a bike as well?

 

I have a theory that competitive moto racers are just a different breed. Compared to racing on 4 wheels, it takes a different level (or lack) of self-preservation instincts to be competitive on 2 wheels. I only tracked my bike a couple times, and I definitely wasn't going 10/10th like I do in my car. To damn scared of maiming myself.

My 2nd time running this track configuration with the last round being exactly 3 years ago.  New PB for me, but not surprising considering stickier rubber and more experience under the belt.  I feel that the sim practice with iRacing has improved my consistency, inputs, and car control.  

 

As usual, I welcome any feedback.

Had a great time.... cant wait to go back. Learning a brand new track on slippery, cold tires was a bit of a challenge... but smoothed out to be a great day.

 

Props to you for wrangling that beast on the 1.7. Hope to see you up at Hallett one of these days.
