This is more akin to my way of thinking.

 

I too want a truck, but since I'm not baller status I just want the cheapest, roadworthy, decent platform. That I can daily when I don't want to take the 'stang, fish & hunt out of, and haul large stuff from hardware store.   So used 2-door shortbed, shortbox that's easy to park and zip around in traffic makes sense. Would be thinking that if/when I get to trailer status it would be a light / open railed aluminum thing. I.e. spend money on trailer so you don't end up going to BIG truck route to drag a big box around.

Car: 2001 BMW Mcoupe
Total vehicle weight with driver: ~3200 lbs w/ driver and fuel load of this run
Wheel horsepower: 300WHP AVG
Tires: NT01s, had a lot of trouble getting heat into them with the cool and cloudy day
Estimated ambient temperature: 48 degrees, cloudy, windy.

Take all my prior times that were from HLT and throw them away. Borrowed AIMs from Apex and El-Tortuga during several sessions yesterday and found up to a 3 second per lap timing error for HLT with only the internal GPS. The good thing is, I found I was putting down 3-4 laps in a row within 0.2 seconds of each other when I didn’t have traffic. So while I might suck at driving, I’m at least consistent in my level of suck.

Ordering my own damn AIM from Amazon today.

Ouch. That's got to be a blow to the system to find out times/timer are off. Don't get discouraged though, clean up a few lines  and you will be faster AND not having to drive as hard (i.e. slow down to go faster).  Think you are right about consistency, for the session you ran with my AIM your theoretical is 1:23.2 (-.8 off your time posted). I lowered my theoretical by .2 to 1.21.5, but at 1:.23.674 best lap was 2.1 seconds off of it. Yikes.

 

We just need a little shoe polish. I'm sold on the value of data analysis, and it dovetails nicely with my OCD tendencies. My development curve got a lot steeper when I got one. I'd be pretty confident that you'll be able to capitalize on it too.

I'm not so sure, Joe. I'm up against an STU class Mustang, it appears.  Could be 420HP ( manufacturer rating at the crank)?  SCCA says 2015 to 2017 Mustang in STU, his is a 2014 GT, but maybe it's covered in the catch-all. I'm hoping it's misclassed.  :)

You should fear the Mustangs, especially if you hang around on the sidewalks near car shows. I would have been happy to run STU (and used to for 1 season of autocross), but tire size limit was like 285. Would be most competitive as an STU car on RE-71s but I'm not going that route.

I think we need to take another look at classing, too, though it's probably too late for this year.  Some of the classes seem a bit too broad in terms of the horsepower spread they encompass, particularly in view of dropping the subclass modifiers. 

You should be sitting OK. STR,STU, STH lumped together.

 

As a Street Touring Pony, I got tossed to Prepared group last year. Came out in 1st again. :) This year I'm ESP since they did away with STP. Lumped with SSP/ASP/BSP with the Vettes, 911s, and SC Mustangs and Camaros. Not to mention what a prepped BMW could be. Oh well, still better than being thrown into the wild west that is CAM. I'd be 250-400 hp off the pace in that bunch
