Bugeyeweirdo
So here’s the back story... I Always have been into BMW but never had one ... Use to have a G35 Sedan and a Subaru. So at this time The owner of shop I work at was selling a E36 sedan he totaled. Hit another car and tore up the front end. So I jumped on it $500. And I had my first bmw .. Rewind to today’s and we now have a Z4 , 335 , 330i and the 328 e36... here is the process of rebuild. I want this and z4 to be track cars and really get into this. Both are auto yes. Z4 at least has paddles. But I can justify hitting a wall in the E36 so let’s use an Automajic as a test dummy Link to post
Bugeyeweirdo
Step one I had to order a bunch of stuff , had to get a fuel pump ASAP as well as a battery just so we can pull it in and out. I did fail to mention that there was also an Incorrect gear ratio code so tranny was cooked. Absolute no reverse. Radiator support and got some cheapo headlights off of offer up Link to post
Bugeyeweirdo
Now I had to get a filter from pep and slap that on since there was no air box assembly. Link to post
Bugeyeweirdo
Baby steps ... got some corner lights and the nose panel. Bumper is the next step. Found a M3 style one on OfferUp for like $80 threw it in the back of the Subaru and headed to shop. Radiator also wasn’t fitting right so had to buy the mounts. Peep my old G35 Link to post
Bugeyeweirdo
I had to order the kidneys ASAP , it was killing me. eBay had some cheapos. Score. Now time to install radiator. Few days prior I had no plan of radiator but the old owner was telling me it’s tuned to rev higher and me forgetting the radiator wasn’t secured resulted in Another new radiator ! Link to post
Bugeyeweirdo
Slowly but Surely coming together ... now we have interior vacuumed by the car wash next door , yellow fogs and a hood ! Thanks to dis and Dat in Las Vegas $100 hood delivered to shop can’t complain Link to post
Bugeyeweirdo
Now it’s drive able so put some gas in it. Still need salvage title inspection before I can register. But no CEL! Just tranny bs still... but something is coming ... also M3 Mirrors locally $50! DEFB6BC6-9F95-4F7E-A911-17A564D8FC0F.MOV Link to post
Bugeyeweirdo
Soooo.. this is how I got the parts e36 .. at the time I had a 540i. I sold the wheels that came on the car for $300 and purchased this 98 328i for $300 lol and ripped the passenger seat out Link to post
Bugeyeweirdo
Now time to see what parts I can get off besides transmission ! Took tail lights , radio , and probably a fake AC pedal. But looks cool so I don’t care Link to post
Bugeyeweirdo
Radio installed. And here’s a current day picture with my 335i Link to post
Bugeyeweirdo
Now time to tackle cooling. New water pump , thermostat , fan clutch and blade. Now everything’s put back together. No CEL and no overheating. Transmission installed with new fluids. Air bag light on so have to have our diag tech tackle that. But next is windshield and I’ll keep you guys posted. I know I’ll get shit for Automajic track build .. I have a N54 I’m building so the track car is the budget car and opportunity presented its self. Link to post
Bugeyeweirdo
So finally got the e36 washed after over a year of sitting here. No codes for transmission after replacement. Only light now is airbag light. And won’t pass salvage title inspection without it and need to replace windshield too so that’s the next step. Hollywood 1 Link to post
Bugeyeweirdo
So the other day in our E46 the CEL came on for p0171 and p0174. Smoked the intake and no leaks .... ( After I ordered CCV Kit ? ) but then after resetting the light And going for drive cycle a p0102 code came back this time as well as trans light.... ordered a MAF and BOOM both lights gone and drives smooth ... Ready for smog ! Who knew MAF puts E46 into limp mode .. Fresh wash and now my girl can drives this and I get my 335 back ? Link to post
