Writing about the right car this time.

I pulled the brake pads today. What a total pain. They were wedged in there very tight. I dunno if they had expanded from collecting moisture or something, but dang, they did not want to come out. I had to pull the caliper off and bang the pad from the bottom with a hammer and punch to get them out.

I destroyed one in the process. Kinda interesting. It looks like the pad material is compressed saw dust or something. Anyone have any idea what it could be?

Welp, it's been nice knowing y'all. I'll just wait for my horrific painful death now.

I never would of guessed that 8 years on track was safer that an afternoon changing brake pads on an old Datsun.

BTW, I tried to clean up the mess as best I could this morning after reading hornetball's post.

Side note: the caliper bolts were on a little tighter than finger tight. It's been a common theme on this car.

Got some tasks done this morning.

  1. Finished changing all the front brake pads.
  2. Drained and flushed Diff Oil. All looked ok.
  3. Flushed Clutch fluid. Car has a great bleeder I can hookup to my mityvac.
  4. Found I was missing an exhaust bolt for the flange to the header. Put in a replacement.
  5. Drained the tranny. Found some gems in the oil. Lucky me!

I'm no expert, but I don't think those are supposed to be floating in the tranny oil. I'm going to guess that they've been there for a while now.

Much as I hate to say this, you'd be best served to pull the tranny apart and check it out...

And just because I'm a shitty driver doesn't make a miata any less slow.

Brake pad is an "organic" and it's possible asbedtos, depending on age. They haven't used it in brake pads in 20+ years, but there's no telling how old those are.

And just because I'm a shitty driver doesn't make a miata any less slow.
