Hallett Personal Best Lap Times..

Recommended Posts

Track: Hallett - June 14, 2015
CCW Lap Time: 1:23.642 (AMB)
CW Lap Time: 1:24.905 (AMB)
Ambient temperature: 88F (CCW) & 86F with light rain (CW)
Car: 2006 E46 M3
Weight with driver: 3420 lbs
Estimated whp: 340
Tires: Hoosier R7 245/40/18

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJpLEIK9biA&feature=youtu.be (not sure how to embed YT vids on this forum)

CCW notes – I lost .4 seconds braking too early for Turn 2 (the tight hairpin) compared to my 2nd best lap. So a low 23 is definitely possible and in cooler ambients 22s should be easily achievable. Turn 1 really makes or breaks the lap though so its very important to carry big speed through there. I found the approach to Turn 1 really tricky to get right so I biked it back and forth at lunchtime on Sat a bunch times and that seemed to help increase my comfort level.

CW notes – With only one session to work with this lap is far from perfect but it was still just as fun as going CCW. The entry to The B*tch (Turn 9) has an abrupt drop which makes it completely blind so that made it really tough to pick a braking point. You can see I braked way too early but the margin for error is so small with the track falling away I decided to play it safe. Also the entry to Turn 2 (the tight hairpin) is super tricky with the left kink. Turn 1 is just as tough going CW and the curbs are not really placed for in the opposite direction so I’m sure I left a bunch of time on the table there. With a couple more sessions and no rain I’m thinking I could have gotten down to low 24s, maybe high 23s.

Congrats on the NASA TTB TRs.

See you at Grandsport and MSRH for a throwdown. I mean hoedown, I mean showdown.

Thanks. I'm sure you'll get into the 22s next year and make me look stupid.

I submit that Grandsport is the Hoedown and MSRH is the Showdown/Throwdown with a 50% chance of Smackdown/Beatdown if either of us are off our game. Gotta re-build my dampers now...

Re-starting old thread...I just started last month. Never raced before. My brother has been racing Spec Miata for 10 years. Live 55 miles away from Hallett in Owasso, so it's cool to have track so close.

Looking forward to next year....got some work to do based on times here....I'll get faster...kept a corvette off my tail for three sessions after being bumped from novice to intermediate so proud of that...

Welcome!  Since you're so close, do you run Hallett's COMMA series?  Cheap way to get lots of seat time, which is the best way to get faster.

I think I will try and do that next year...

Unusual direction.  Drying track after torrential morning rains.  Lots of places where I ran out of RPM and it didn't seem worth shifting.  Lots of time left that could be gained with more familiarity.

Super nice afternoon.  Different direction from day before ("normal" direction).  I squandered the cool morning temperatures chasing a vibration.  There's always next year!

Welcome! I was at that HST. Fantastic weekend for personal bests. Were you in the intermediate group?

Sorry it took me a while to respond. Guess I didn't check the box to follow the thread.

I was indeed in the intermediate group that day, voluntarily. I was in advanced initially and the group was rather large. Intermediate only had like 4 cars so Connie and Karen were asking if people wanted to switch to even the groups out.

Can't wait for next season! Just got seats delivered. Have to gather the rest of the goodies over winter.

What pressures do the RC-1s like to be at hot?

I run 32-34 hot, but the real answer is get a pyro and log temps (goes for myself too). Vehicle weight, alignment, wheel width, tire size etc all play a part in what's optimal.

This. Mine like 33 hot. Over 34 for me and it gets all durifto. I'm running 17's though, so that may vary.
