phm14
http://thenewspaper.com/news/36/3656.asp This is one of many articles about the botched law change that makes it vague as to whether or not you really need one! Been driving the Miata for over a year w no front plate. Never had a front plate on my CR. Cited for speeding once and it was ignored. If a cop wants to write you up for the plate, popping it out of the bodywork after the fact won't help if he witnessed it "not displayed". If he has a sense of humor, he might find it amusing. If not, who knows. Link to post
savowood
If I read this correctly, I could drive my 911 to Austin from San Antonio without tags, although I'm guessing I still need registration. Tags are basically an indication that you (probably) have registration. This is good news for the Boxsera since I don't have a front mounting point and have to drop the plate in my windshield. snakeeyes1
I received a warning from DPS for no front plate on my Miata about 4 months ago. I rigged up a front bracket using a thin piece of sheet metal, bent into a 90, and 3 zip ties. It mounts to the side of the grille opening and attaches to the tie-down hook and an existing hole in the grille mouth. It doesn't obstruct airflow, involves no holes drilled, and probably weighs 3 ounces + the plate itself. Link to post

You're not reading it correctly. It is still unlawful to drive without both a front and back license plate. The only thing that is gone is the fine. So, it is still a valid reason to pull you over. RavynX
I bought one of the GarageStar brackets a while back and I STILL haven't installed it. :P I figured I'd get it if I ever traveled out of town since that's where most of the stops occur. I need to find one for the s2k so I don't get stopped in Marble Falls like last year driving home from an autox event. Link to post
