ajay
WOW! A sad day when we lose such a bright and tallented driver. Link to post
Tstiles
Very sad indeed About 2 laps in I told Lee Ann it was a matter of time that they were going to have a big one and hoped nobody got hurt. IRL has got to figure out how to change the cars so that the drivers have to lift .... Open Wheel cars are not stock cars that can beat and bang and rub ... Setting up a race where the whole field is flat out the entire race is a recipe for disaster. RIP Danny Link to post
pgporto
Imagine all the prep and safety equipment the guys in IRL employ and still tragedies like this happen. Very very humbling. Thoughts and prayers with him and his family. Link to post

True but when you're flung into the air and into a barricade at high speed it's hard for any safety equipment to lessen the impact of such high stopping G-forces. RIP Dan. Link to post

RIP Dan. Yup, I think its time for a "catch fence" redesign. Maybe a "keep the car out of the stands without injuring the driver fence." Oh and the whole setup was a recipe for disaster. Like Tstiles said, you have to make them lift. Also the top speeds were getting ridiculous. Link to post

RIP Dan. It's very true. I don't know what his speed was at the point of impact but they were lapping at 225 mph in practice. At those velocities when you get airborne it's no longer a car crash; it's a plane crash. All the harnesses and crush zones on the planet aren't going to do much, especially when the car rolls over before touching down like his appeared to. Sad, sad day. Link to post
